Welcome to the Movement!
We're on our way to a bully free world, and you're about to find out how!
The Basics:
International STAND UP to Bullying Day is a special event in which participants sign and wear a pink “pledge shirt” to take a visible, public stance against bullying.
Many workplaces and schools participate in International Stand Up to Bullying Day on their own specified date throughout the year, however the next worldwide stand is schduled to take place during anti-bullying week on Friday, November 21st, 2008
The stand will be taken in a global nature; available to schools and workplaces in 25 different countries.
International STAND UP to Bullying Day is an idea first created in late January of 2007 by the Executive Director of Bully Help Initiatives, Bobby Cooper (read the whole story here). The first day occured after a full year of preperation on two dates; February 15th and 29th of 2008. More than 230 schools and workplaces around the world representing more than 115,000 people enabled their students and staff to take a visible public stance against bullying, thereby creating effective, visible, peer based support sturctures!
Please read on to find out how you can take part in this proactive stand next year, or right now (if you didn't yet this year!)
Participation requires your participants signing and wearing a stand up pledge shirt. Buttons, signs, letters, and blacelets do not qualify. It must be a pink shirt. We sell these shirts to support a number of free innovative tools meant to assist victims of bullying in breaking free from a world no one deserves; however, if you can’t afford to purchase the shirts, you can choose to make them yourself. In this circumstance, you must submit pictures of the shirts for approval before being issued a STOOD UP ZONE certification.
The shirts were designed to be extremely effective in achieving a variety of aspects involved in stopping bullying. Simply "addressing" bullying will not lead to a significant change in your school or workplace. If you are unable to generate funding to purchase the shirts, we will assist you by providing tools and resources to either make them yourself, or find a sponsor to cover the expense. Participating in International Stand Up to Bullying Day will achieve the following:
The color of the STANDUP pledge shirts, is based on a campaign started by Travis Price and David Shepherd, two senior students who took a stand against a freshmen student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt. This act of leadership and heroism provides a great example for those who are "on the fence" about displaying their own personal stance against bullying.
